Michael N. Burt
Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director
Michael N. Burt is the co-founder, Chief Executive
Officer, and Managing Director of Norwood Consulting
Group and Norwood Environmental Group. Mr. Burt has more
than 25 years experience in banking, commercial real
estate lending, loan workouts, foreclosures, litigation
management, credit analysis, financial analysis, loan
underwriting, loan portfolio due diligence, loan
portfolio sales, and property site inspections.
During his career, Mr. Burt has successfully managed
commercial real estate loan departments for large
regional banks and savings and loans, including the
initiation and development of a Construction Lending
department. Management of these lending departments
included loan production, underwriting, loan closing,
loan administration, and sales and marketing activities.
Mr. Burt has also created and managed a Real Estate
Owned department for a Texas-based bank. This included
the management and marketing of all commercial and
residential real estate assets. He successfully designed
and implemented innovative business plans that increased
the value of the real estate portfolio by 28%.
Additionally, Mr. Burt managed a large commercial real
estate loan portfolio of problem assets located in
various states. Mr. Burt successfully negotiated
workouts between borrowers and participating lenders and
resolved distressed assets through the development of
strategic asset-based business plans.
Additional accomplishments by Mr. Burt while a bank
executive include the securitization of loan pools with
RTC mortgage-backed security initiatives. Also, Mr. Burt
managed and directed the liquidation of a South Texas
Savings and Loan Association on behalf of the FDIC.
Prior to forming Norwood Consulting, Mr. Burt also
served in various positions for consulting firms serving
commercial mortgage lending clients and the FDIC. Mr.
Burt managed the operation of extensive FDIC and RTC
bulk loan sales and portfolio due diligence projects.
Additionally, Mr. Burt managed commercial loan
underwriting, due diligence, property site inspections,
agreed-upon procedures, and portfolio analyses for
commercial mortgage conduit clients.
Mr. Burt holds a BBA in Finance from The University of
Texas at Arlington and an MBA from Southern California
University’s Center for Professional Studies.
Susan R. Burt
Chief Financial Officer/Managing Director
Susan Burt is the co-founder, Chief Financial Officer,
and Managing Director of Norwood Consulting Group and
Norwood Environmental Group. Ms. Burt has over 23 years
of experience in various areas of commercial real
estate, including as a partner in a commercial real
estate development company, a regional vice president of
a property management company, a senior asset manager of
a life insurance company, and as manager of loan
administration for various banks.
Ms. Burt established an asset management division and
provided oversight and management of an extensive
nationwide portfolio of commercial real estate assets
for a Texas-based commercial real estate development
company. Additionally, as a principal in this firm, Ms.
Burt directed all due diligence and analyses of proposed
construction projects and investment strategies.
As a regional vice president for a multifamily
management/development company, Ms. Burt directed the
management of 5,000 apartment units in the Atlanta
region, which included a staff of more than 100
employees. Ms. Burt also served as Director of Asset
Management for this firm and initiated the development
of the department from the ground up, which included the
management of an 8,500 unit multifamily portfolio.
Ms. Burt has also served as a senior asset manager for
various financial institutions and for Mutual Benefit
Life Insurance Company. She has managed all commercial
property types that included both performing and
troubled assets. Her duties included tenant lease
negotiations, marketing, maintenance, renovations, and
capital improvements.
Ms. Burt’s experience also includes the management of a
$700 million commercial real estate loan portfolio for a
Texas-based bank. Ms. Burt supervised 20 employees and
designed a PC database for the bank.
Ms. Burt holds a BBA in Finance and Real Estate from The
University of Texas and an MBA from Southern California
University’s Center for Professional Studies.
Bill M. Burleson
Director
Bill Burleson is the Director of the Midwest Region for
Norwood Consulting Group. Mr. Burleson manages property
site inspections and analyses and commercial real estate
consulting services. Mr. Burleson also directs Norwood’s
real estate investment activities and construction
management projects.
Mr. Burleson brings a broad foundation of real estate
and construction experience to Norwood. He has owned and
managed his own real estate development company,
developing a portfolio of residential real estate
properties worth several million dollars.
Mr. Burleson also owns and manages a successful a real
estate advisory firm that provides investment strategies
and services for both residential and commercial real
estate investments.
Mr. Burleson holds a Bachelors of Business
Administration from Baylor University.
Michael N. Goldberg
Director
Michael N. Goldberg is the Director of the Mid-Atlantic
Region for Norwood Consulting Group. Mr. Goldberg has
more than 25 years of experience in commercial real
estate lending, asset management, loan administration,
loan workouts, and property site inspections.
Prior to joining Norwood in 1997, Mr. Goldberg served as
a Team Leader in the Real Estate Special Assets Division
of AMRESCO. He successfully created a loan
administration division dedicated to servicing
non-performing commercial real estate portfolios.
Mr. Goldberg has served at various financial
institutions with experience ranging from loan workouts
to REO management. Mr. Goldberg has successfully managed
loan portfolios exceeding $800 million, including
construction and development, commercial and residential
construction, and interim loans.
Mr. Goldberg has also successfully developed and managed
a Real Estate Owned department for a newly formed
financial institution. The property types managed
included both residential and commercial assets. Mr.
Goldberg holds a degree in Construction Management and
Technology from Richland College.
Erin Kilton
Director
Erin Kilton serves as Director of the Western States
Region for Norwood Consulting Group. Ms. Kilton has over
25 years of business experience, including international
relations. She began her career in accounting and
finance and served in executive level positions in sales
development, training and operations.
Ms. Kilton enjoyed over 20 years of success with Texas
Instruments and Mary Kay Inc. She began her career
applying her BBA and MBA degrees in accounting and
finance, later shifting her talents to sales
development, sales education and operations.
During her sixteen years at Mary Kay, Ms. Kilton was
responsible for all aspects of sales force compensation,
relations and management, while providing her expertise
to numerous projects, committees and cross-functional
teams. Ms. Kilton led a 45 person team responsible for
motivating, educating and preparing 10,000 Independent
Sales Directors to lead their own successful sales
organizations. Her experience, expertise and ability to
lead allowed her to provide critical input and direction
to many company strategic initiatives.
Ms. Kilton left Mary Kay, as Vice president of Sales
Development and Education, to partner in her husband's
business consulting and professional skills training
company. She later accepted the position of Executive
Vice President of Sales for Oasis Wellness Network, a
small and promising nutriceutical products company. Ms.
Kilton led the development and launch of a party plan
program to the existing multi-level marketing format.
She was instrumental in helping the company restructure
expenses and redirect key strategies to get the company
on track for growth and profitability. As Vice President
of Operations, Erin shifted her focus to leading the
day-to-day operations while Oasis prepared to move its
headquarters out of state. Ms. Kilton joined Norwood
Consulting Group in 2006.
Ms. Kilton holds a BBA from Sam Houston State University
and an MBA from University of Dallas.
Antoine C. Langston, P.E., PTOE
Managing Director
Antoine C. Langston is a Managing Director of Norwood
Environmental Group, Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Langston
manages environmental consulting activities, including
Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. He
has more than 20 years of experience in various fields,
including civil engineering, traffic operations and
consulting, and environmental consulting.
Prior to joining Norwood Environmental Group, Mr.
Langston served as the Manager of Engineering and
Environmental Services for Doug Connally & Associates,
Inc. Mr. Langston successfully developed a consulting
engineering and environmental business, including civil
engineering, traffic operations, and environmental site
assessments serving both public and private clients.
Mr. Langston has served in various positions with
engineering and construction firms as well as the Texas
Department of Transportation and the City of Plano,
Texas. He has a broad base of private and public
experience.
Mr. Langston is also the principal of ACL Engineering, a
private civil and traffic engineering company that
specializes in land development, highway/roadway design,
traffic impact studies, traffic signal design, and
traffic simulations and modeling.
Mr. Langston holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil
Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington
and a Master of Engineering in Traffic Engineering from
The Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Langston is a
Licensed Professional Engineer and a Professional
Traffic Operations Engineer.
Michael D. Merriwether
Director
Michael Merriwether is the Director of the Southeast
Region for Norwood Consulting Group. Mr. Merriwether
joined Norwood Consulting Group in 1997. Mr. Merriwether
manages property site inspections, credit analysis, loan
underwriting, and commercial real estate consulting
services. Additionally, Mr. Merriwether oversees
Norwood’s real estate asset monitoring program in the
southeast region.
Mr. Merriwether brings a broad spectrum of financial
analysis and real estate experience to Norwood. After
serving as an Airborne Ranger in the United States Army,
Mr. Merriwether interned at Merrill Lynch’s
International Trading Desk. Mr. Merriwether then began
his career in financial analysis, which later evolved
into underwriting SBA loans for businesses and real
estate transactions.
Mr. Merriwether has also successfully managed the donor
stock portfolio for C.A.R.E. His duties included
analyzing and monitoring various components of
C.A.R.E.’s international operations in Europe and
Africa.
Mr. Merriwether holds a Bachelors of Science in Business
Finance from California State University, Northridge.
Roland E. Ruble
Director
Roland Ruble has been a Director for Norwood Consulting
Group since his association with the firm in 1998. Mr.
Ruble has more than 40 years experience in senior level
management positions in commercial real estate, graduate
business school program management, international
consulting services, and manufacturing. He is
responsible for Norwood’s asset monitoring activities
nationwide. Mr. Ruble also performs extensive duties
associated with commercial mortgage loan origination
activities, including Agreed Upon Procedures and
property site inspections.
Mr. Ruble has extensive experience in credit analysis,
due diligence, and property site inspections. He has
served as the Chairman of The MBA Consortium, an
alliance of fifteen premier graduate schools of
business. He also served as the Director of the Two Year
MBA Program for the Crummer Graduate School of Business
at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
Mr. Ruble has owned and operated his own consulting
firm, successfully providing management, technical, and
marketing consulting services to companies in the United
States, Europe, Latin America, China, Japan, and Korea.
Mr. Ruble has successfully served in various senior
level management positions in large manufacturing
companies that included the management of operations in
the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
Mr. Ruble holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
from the University of Illinois and an MBA from
Pepperdine University.
David M. Shelley
Managing Director
David M. Shelley is the Director of the Northeast Region
for Norwood Consulting Group and Managing Director for
Norwood Environmental Group. Mr. Shelley has over 35
years experience in executive level positions in various
aspects of banking and commercial real estate, including
commercial real estate lending, loan workouts,
foreclosures, Real Estate Owned management, litigation
management, credit analysis, financial analysis, loan
underwriting, loan portfolio due diligence, loan
portfolio sales, and property site inspections. He also
has more than 20 years of experience in environmental
consulting and management.
Mr. Shelley has successfully managed retail branch
operations as well as a commercial real estate loan
department for large regional banks. Mr. Shelley’s loan
department management responsibilities included all
aspects of commercial real estate activities, including
loan origination, underwriting, loan closing, loan
administration, and sales and marketing activities.
Also as a bank executive, Mr. Shelley successfully
created and managed an Environmental Assessment and
Remediation Department, which included the
identification, investigation, classification,
remediation and sale of environmentally impaired
properties owned by the bank and its various
subsidiaries.
Additionally, Mr. Shelley performed services in various
positions for consulting firms serving commercial
mortgage lending clients, the RTC and the FDIC. Mr.
Shelley managed and directed the identification,
investigation, classification, remediation and sale of
environmentally impaired properties owned by the RTC.
Mr. Shelley was a Partner and Chief Operations Officer
of Environmental Materials, Inc., Central Abatement LLC,
and Demolition Materials LLC, which were involved in the
investigation, remediation and financial reimbursement
of environmentally impaired properties owned by large
oil companies and government agencies within the
continental United States. His experience includes the
performance of Environmental Investigation that included
Phase I Preliminary Site Investigations, Phase II
Testing and Contamination Identification and Phase III
Site Remediation and Monitoring.
Mr. Shelley went on to found and manage the operations
of four demolition companies located in Dallas, Houston
and Phoenix. Under Mr. Shelley’s direction these
companies successfully provided full service demolition
activities for private companies and government
agencies, including interior and exterior renovation,
wrecking, implosion and waste removal for all types of
commercial and residential structures.
Mr. Shelley successfully completed the following
environmental training courses provided by the
University of Texas at Arlington Department of Civil
Engineering:

Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP)

Mr. Shelley served as an air traffic controller in the
United States Army and holds a BBA in Finance and
Economics from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Gerald Spiller
Director
Gerald Spiller is a Director of Norwood Consulting Group
serving in the Southern States Region. Mr. Spiller has
over 10 years experience in commercial real estate,
including sales, leasing, management and property site
inspections.
While working with Ryland Enterprise, Mr. Spiller
participated in various joint venture real estate
brokerage assignments with Cushman & Wakefield of Texas.
One of these deals included the sale of approximately
36,000 acres of land in 40 separate transactions.
Mr. Spiller has leased and assisted in the management of
multiple mid-rise office buildings in the north Houston
area totaling 350,000 square feet. During this time, he
signed over 250 leases while working with more than
1,000 prospects over a five year period.
Since joining Norwood in 2003, Mr. Spiller has worked on
several thousand transactions. He is responsible for
managing the asset monitoring activities for the
southern sector of Texas, including Austin, Houston, and
San Antonio. Mr. Spiller also performs extensive duties
with commercial mortgage conduit loan originations,
including property site analyses.
Mr. Spiller holds a degree in Real Estate and a Texas
Real Estate License. In addition, he has completed
financial and market analysis courses through the
Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute. |
